Bristol Bay Reds Close In on Forecast at 91 Percent

Bristol Bay sockeye (reds) reached 91 percent of the in-area forecast this week, with 29.4 million fish against a 32.3 million fish expected harvest, per the Blue Sheet. Statewide, sockeye stand at 34.5 million fish, 78 percent of the 44.1 million fish commercial-comparable forecast. Cook Inlet reds added volume outside the Bay, reaching 124,000 fish from 36,000 the prior week.

• Bristol Bay sockeye: 29.4 million fish, 91 percent of its 32.3 million fish in-area forecast. The Bay is the season's value engine and the run is far into its forecast projection at peak July pace.
• Cook Inlet sockeye: 124,000 fish cumulative, up 244 percent week over week from 36,000 fish the prior week. The largest sockeye move outside the Bay this week.
• Southeast Alaska pink (humpies): 263,000 fish, up 232.9 percent week over week from 79,000 fish. Prince William Sound pinks reached 96,000 fish, up 118.2 percent from 44,000.
• Chignik and Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim: both at 48 percent of forecast. Chignik at 785,000 fish of a 1.64 million fish projection. AYK at 72,000 fish of 151,000 fish.
• AYK and Cook Inlet chum (dogs): both at 20,000 fish cumulative, each up 300 percent from 5,000 fish the prior week.
• Kodiak: at 0 percent of forecast, the furthest behind of the scored districts.

Statewide harvest across all species stands at 40.6 million fish, 34 percent of the 119.9 million fish commercial-comparable forecast. Blue Sheet figures are preliminary and subject to revision by ADF&G.
